The world-famous Muppets return to Disney+ for an all-new comedy series titled The Muppets Mayhem, starring Lilly Singh as the human lead.
According to Disney+’s announcement, The Muppets Mayhem will take audiences on “a music-filled journey” as The Electric Mayhem Band swaps the stage for the studio to record their first-ever album with the support of a young musical director named Nora (Lilly Singh) who will handle and fight through all the chaos that comes from working with the band.
The old-school Muppet band will be featured in the new series, with Dr. Teeth fronting the band on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and on lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone, and Lips on trumpet, as they navigate their way through today’s music scene in a quest to try and finally go platinum.
“We’re thrilled to bring The Electric Mayhem Band’s story to the center of this new series. They’ve been entertaining audiences since ‘The Muppet Show,’ which debuted 45 years ago, so it’s wonderful that these characters finally get to play lead roles rather than supporting roles,” said David Lightbody, executive producer and senior vice president of Disney Live Entertainment and The Muppets Studio.
Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg developed the series with Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes based on characters created by Jim Henson. Goldberg and Barretta are executive producers, with Yorkes co-executive producer. Michael Bostick and Kris Eber are also executive producers alongside David Lightbody and Leigh Slaughter of The Muppets Studio.
“The Muppets are renowned for their quality, creativity, and unparalleled fun storytelling for the whole family,” said Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television. “We’re thrilled to have Adam, Bill and Jeff at the helm to bring all of these iconic and awesome new characters to life in new and dynamic ways.”
“Adam F. Goldberg is our resident Muppet enthusiast at Signature and playing in the sandbox with long time Muppet performer Bill and these beloved characters was a dream come true for him, Bill and Jeff” , added Jonnie Davis, President of ABC Signature. “Their approach is fresh, fun, musical and of course hilarious. We couldn’t be happier to be the studio helping them put the band back together.”
The Muppets Mayhem is Henson’s latest creative-centric project at Disney Plus. The streamer previously worked with Baretta on Muppets Haunted Mansion, The Muppets Studio’s first special for the platform, which IGN gave an 8 out of 10 for showcasing an “ingenious mix of Halloween with two much-loved properties.”

Prior to that, The Muppets starred in a short-form series for Disney Plus, titled Muppets Now, which followed Scooter as he raced to meet his delivery deadlines and upload the all-new Muppet series for streaming. IGN acknowledged that this series still had some hurdles to overcome after its first episode seemed to lack a real “center”.
