Swedish furniture company IKEA launches collection with Swedish House Mafia for music fans and designers

One of Sweden’s most famous retailers is teaming up with one of its most popular music groups to create a collection for music fans.

IKEA and Swedish House Mafia are launching a furniture collection in October, featuring products for music production and home enjoyment.

The collection is called OBEGRNSAD, which means “unlimited” in Swedish, and is a collaboration between IKEA and the three members of the electronic dance music group: Axel Christofer Hedfors, known as Axwell; Steve Angello and Sebastien Ingrosso.

With more than 20 pieces, the collection is aimed at music fans, producers, DJs and “all creators with limited means but unlimited creativity”, says IKEA’s press release.

“Technological development has enabled the democratization of music and music production, and the collection aims to support the creative pursuits of the many people who create, perform and enjoy music at home,” IKEA said.

The OBEGRNSAD collection — which IKEA describes as “an affordable collection with the classic black aesthetic — includes LED wall and floor lamps; laptop, speaker and record stands; a rug; slippers; and d other accessories for listening to music The matte black record player in the collection is the first record player manufactured by IKEA since 1973.

“We wanted to simplify the process for people to create music,” Swedish House Mafia said in IKEA’s press release. “I hope our collection inspires and empowers more people to be more creative at home, and it doesn’t have to be just about making music. It can be so much more.”

It’s not just the Swedish roots that bind the furniture store and the EDM Group. Swedish House Mafia said in the press release that they grew up with IKEA furniture and used it in their creative pursuits as teenagers.

“The purpose of the collaboration was formed around our own personal journey in life,” the band said.
