Some tickets are still available for the final community showcase at Margate’s Theater Royal before it closes on April 28.

The venue, which is the second-oldest operating theater in the country, will close after the Rachel Parris event on Thursday, April 28, with no reopening date given.

The theater is to be refurbished as part of the £22.2m Margate Town deal. Last year, Thanet Council announced that the Theater Royal and Margate Winter Gardens would be closed this year while the future of both venues is considered.

Reservations are expected to stop at the Theater Royal on April 28 and at the Winter Gardens from August 14.

It has not been revealed how long the sites will be closed.

The current staff at Theater Royal Margate are made redundant and so have taken matters into their own hands by setting up an events company – Phoenix Community Events.

The objective is to ensure the continuity of the shows and to keep the hall open until its planned renovation. The first staff event is a variety showcase tonight (April 24) to raise funds with the goal of continuing. Fifty percent of the proceeds will also go to Louie’s Helping Hands. The charity behind Llewellyn School at Quex Park in Birchington works to improve the lives and futures of local children with sensory disabilities and physical challenges

Phoenix Community Events presents an evening of music, dance, comedy and fun, hosted by Margate favorite Jezo Bond.

Local bands Off The Hook Productions, Silver Slipper, Act 1 Theater Group and Better Day Productions will perform, along with musicians Lunatraktors, Alex Hills and Katie McGarry’s musical theater parody ‘There are Worse Things’, plus a few surprises . along the way. The performance starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are Adults: £15 Children: £5 and are available at: www.margate-live.com
