Sondheim back for next show by musical theater company Kettering

A musical theater group from Kettering are ready to hit the stage once more and step into the limelight at the Lighthouse Theater as the curtain rises on their latest show.

After a two-year hiatus, the Kettering Operatic Society (KOS) has promised to come back strong in its next production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical ‘Company’.

The talented troupe’s last performance was in April 2019 when they staged Sister Act and they were due to stage Shrek The Musical in April 2020, but the nationwide lockdown prevented the show from continuing.

KOS performers in rehearsals for Company

In the company’s 100-year history, there have only been two occasions when a show has been canceled – once due to a world war and the other due to a global pandemic – so this year’s cast are more determined than ever to put on a great performance.

Director Peter Darnell said: “This show has brought together some very talented people from across the county who have been waiting for the opportunity to get back on stage. They’ve been rehearsing for four months, so it’s going to be an impressive performance and we can’t wait for the curtain gets up the night of the premiere.”

With a tight cast of just 14 actors, Company is considered one of the late Stephen Sondheim’s finest musicals. The latest performances featuring Patti Lupone have sold out in the United States, so the KOS Musical Theater Company hopes to bring some of that Broadway magic to Kettering in April.

Tim said: “Sondheim’s writing is brilliant and this show makes you feel all the emotions as it looks at life and relationships. The marriage observations are so funny and we really laughed at the script during rehearsals – we can’t wait to share this with our audience.”

KOS Musical Theater Company will raise funds for Cancer Research UK with their performance. Since supporting the charity six years ago, they have raised over £57,000.

The company performs on stage at the Lighthouse Theatre, Kettering, from Tuesday 26 April to Saturday 30 April at 7.30pm each evening.
