Patti LuPone clears the air and clears up rumors about two performances she missed from her Broadway Revival Company.

The 72-year-old actress stars as Joanne in the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s original musical in 1970, taking to Twitter to confirm why she missed recent performances.

Contrary to rumors that she had contracted COVID-19, LuPone revealed on Twitter that she had in fact contracted “rotavirus”.

‘Hello dolls. I don’t normally do this, but since there is some little bullshit that writes fake stuff about Company, here’s the truth: I missed 2 shows with rotavirus, ”LuPone began.

“My toilet can confirm that. Two other actors contracted the same rotavirus. Poor Claybourne and his vomit-stained flight attendant uniform can confirm that too, ”she added, referring to co-star Claybourne Elder.

Elder has since tested positive for COVID-19 and is out of production for this reason, with LuPone confirming that a few members of production have contracted the virus.

“Although we have had a few cases of Covid in the company, we have had exemplary understudies covering these roles, so the show was able to continue,” she added.

“You all should know that The Jacobs and Company production is one of the best tested on Broadway. We are all tested by PCR every night, ”she confirmed.

LuPone added that they “currently cannot field a team of stagehands to run the show safely.”

“These people are putting their health at risk as much as we are on stage, and we ask you to be patient as everyone improves, so that we can continue our business,” LuPone concluded.

The company canceled its 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. performances on Sunday, December 26, although it announced on Monday that their 7 p.m. performance would go on as scheduled.

The musical is scheduled to take place at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater until June 26.

The original 1970 musical was nominated for a record 14 Tony Awards, which was among the first book musicals to deal with contemporary dating, marriage and divorce.

LuPone played Joanne in a filmed performance of the piece at the New York Philharmonic concert in 2011.
