Once the Musical makes its regional debut with a brand new production

Once is heading to the Midlands for its regional debut later this year!

The Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical will be reimagined with an immersive new design at the Hub at St Mary’s in Lichfield for a four-week run.

The new theater company, Let Me In, has focused on accessibility, offering a range of ‘pay what you can’ and relaxed shows, with director Christopher Buckle saying: ‘We are so lucky to have the “opportunity to bring this great human story to the Midlands in this brand new regional debut. To work with a cast and creative team with this level of talent, creativity and passion is exhilarating, and we promise it will be Once like you’ve never seen before.

“We also wanted to make sure our production stayed true to the message behind it,” Buckle continues. “In addition to the experiences that Glen and Marketa have had that have translated so well on stage and screen. To do this, we have designed a range of accessible performances with the aim of ensuring that anyone who wants to experience Once, will have the opportunity to do so. We believe that theater has both the potential and the responsibility to support the strengthening of communities and to actively challenge the injustices that provide the privileged few in society with opportunities that should be available to all.”

Based on the Oscar-winning 2006 film, the musical tells the story of two disenfranchised artists brought together by their shared love of music. It features a book by Enda Walsh (Lazarus) and a score by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (Executives).

The cast will be led by Luchi Carmignani and Phil King as Girl and Guy respectively and production will also include creative work by Imogen Melhuish, musical direction by Ewan Steady and motion direction by Hatty Allen.

Once takes place in Lichfield from August 26 to September 17, 2022.
