NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) – A local logging company spoke about the importance of tree maintenance to potentially prevent tree damage on and around your home before bad weather occurs.
Cleaning up debris and nailing down items that may be carried around your yard are just a few of the things homeowners should do before inclement weather. Most of central Tennessee will brace for severe storms over the next 24 hours.
Music City Tree said they have been bombarded with trees since the last storm started a few weeks ago.
“If you have a tree of concern a few days before you know it, bring in an arborist who can respond to an emergency, take care of it before it becomes a problem,” said Orlando Stricklen, owner of Music. City Tree Company.
Stricklen said maintenance is vital in the days, weeks and even months leading up to inclement weather.
“A lot of people don’t understand that trees need maintenance. They should be inspected like anything else, especially if you have large trees near you,” Stricklen said. “You want these inspected at least once or twice a year to make sure they’re healthy and to make sure they can withstand a storm.”
Experts have also suggested homeowners remove all debris from around their homes before storms, including nailing or tying anything that might be washed away during a storm. If a tree falls on your home, Stricklen said it’s best to plan ahead and make sure you have essential documentation nearby.
“In the days to come, you can just make sure you have your insurance information handy and a professional emergency response team is on hand,” Stricklen said.
