by Morgan Wade New Acoustic sessions EP is everything I hoped it would be and more.
First of all, to say the extremely obvious, this girl can SING like no one else.
I mean, she has one of my favorite voices in all of country music right now, and she absolutely shines with simple acoustic accompaniment like she did on this new project.
She noted that fans constantly say how much they love to hear the songs stripped down from the start, so she thought it was time to deliver them in a more formal project:
“The only thing that seemed consistent enough it’s that people like to hear these stripped down songs.
They say they love the records, but when you just take it with a guitar or some instruments, you can see the energy from the audience. When people arrive they ask…and we’ve been on the road so much, I know it’s not just one or two places.
I got into it to share the music with people who wanted to hear it, who found something they needed. So I thought to myself: why not? It’s a simple thing to do for anyone who’s been out, who’s asked.
The five-song list includes two songs from his debut studio album Reckless in “Wilder Days” and “Last Cigarette”, as well as three brand new titles “Crossing State Lines”, “Kelly’s Drive” and “Flower”.
Of course, she always writes with unabashed honesty in every verse, and her ability to be so candid about her real life experiences is a big reason people have connected so authentically with the rising star:
“You can’t deny the things that happen or that you see. It will pull you down. Life isn’t always like that.
But for the person in the middle of any struggle, hearing a song that says they see you, know what you’re going through, is a lifesaver. Have something to help you? It’s the best thing ever.
So before we start working on what’s next, this is for everyone, for anyone who has ever found help in my songs.
She also shared a post on Instagram about the new EP, saying she wanted it to be a “thank you” to all her fans for sticking with her on this musical journey.
She also added that she’s been working on new music, which is always great to hear:
And when it comes to the new songs she’s featured here, I can easily see one of the three quickly becoming a fan favorite.
“Crossing State Lines” finds her trying to get over a guy who “never wanted me,” as she comes to terms with the fact that what she thought was heaven really is a lot like the hell :
“Flower” is about the loss of a loved one and how, although she would love to put a flower on her grave like you’re supposed to, it’s no use as it would “probably fall apart”.
What she really wants is for them to know how she is doing these days and to have one last talk together because they were one of the only people that she says truly loved her unconditionally. :
The latest novella, “Kelley’s Drive”, is also about loss and is an absolute stunner. If you want to hear Morgan at his best, his voice on this one is killer:
Of course, I’m so excited to have his current single and fan favorite “Wilder Days” on a studio recording so I can blast it at maximum volume in the car whenever I want:
And finally, the sensual “Last Cigarette” is superb, although I would never expect less from Morgan:
