Musical brand

Maluma launches its new brand of mezcal, Contraluz

On Wednesday August 10, Maluma launched his own brand of mezcal in New York. Contraluz is one of many ventures he has worked on that reflect his ever-evolving ambitions, but he has ensured that music remains his number one priority.

The Colombian artist summoned the media to a Manhattan skyscraper to announce himself as the co-owner of the new brand of mezcal, whose name symbolizes “a dreamer who gets up every day to carry his family forward.”

“I think it’s good that people know about my musical career, but also that they know more about me behind the scenes: who is the businessman, what are the projects outside of my music”, explained the Latin star, who revealed that in addition to mezcal, he owns a clothing line, a horse farm and an audiovisual production company.

Maluma said he was grateful to his music career for getting him to where he is, but he feels he has changed and grown with his dreams. Don’t worry, he won’t be quitting music anytime soon.

The Colombian said he grew up in the business world thanks to the people around him, including his father, while talking about his growth in the music industry over the past 10 years. He’s also been a “quiet entrepreneur” and has now decided it’s “time to tell the world about these projects” he has “under the table”.

“My dreams are simply not the ambition to make money, but to inspire generations,” said the singer, who joins a long list of celebrities combining the worlds of entertainment and business, including his compatriot and fellow reggaetonero J Balvin.

The singer said actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is one of his business mentors through his own efforts: “He knows how to combine his acting with his business, and that’s where we we are right now, learning from the greats.”

Maluma also hopes his mezcal will become an inspiration to Latinos, reflecting their culture and “power” in the world.
