Ken Dahleen and his Big Band team until July 14 • Idyllwild Town Crier

The free Idyllwild Summer Concert Series returns to the Butterfield Amphitheater this Thursday night, July 7, featuring Coachella Valley favorites and summer concert veterans Lisa Lynn and the Broken Hallelujahs. The show starts at 6:15 p.m. and is free for all. The first concert opens with Nathan James, a group of globetrotters.
Since 2000, local big band leader Ken Dahleen and his team have booked the entertainment, made the financial arrangements, and provided the sound and lighting to provide the community with a summer of memorable musical evenings.
The staff of Dahleen’s Big Band always put on a special program, this year next week on July 14 when they will perform a tribute to 140 years of Broadway. This show will start at 7 p.m. without a first part.
Dahleen’s vision for the series was “to have a different style of music every week, at some point everyone can enjoy the type of music they love.” It turns out that most people enjoy all of this and come to all [the concerts.]”
Concerts are free, but donations are gratefully accepted. Funding is provided by community contributions, and the series always begins with a wing and a prayer. The budget, like the popularity of the programs, has steadily increased. This year, it’s over $34,000. Contributions, checks payable to “Idyllwild Summer Concert Org”, can be mailed to PO Box 1542, Idyllwild CA 92549-1542. Or call (760) 413-4638.
The 2022 series is dedicated to the memory of Idyllwild’s late “Gentleman in Chief”, Doug Austin. Austin will live on in the hearts of all who remember his years of service to our community and his humble and entertaining manner with a mic and a crowd during the series.
Remember that temperatures drop on summer evenings. Come prepared with an extra layer. Butterfield Amphitheater, 54201 Ridgeview Drive, with access from the Idyllwild Community Center Playground parking lot on Hwy 243, just south of town.
