Rehearsals are in full swing for York Theater Company’s Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin encore in Hollywood ahead of the start of performances a week from tonight. Here’s a look at the company before they head to theaters!
The York Theater Company (James Morgan, Production Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to developing new musicals and rediscovering musical gems of the past, in association with Riki Kane Larimer, presents a limited return commitment of the hit Off-Broadway Musical Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin in Hollywood, a celebration of song and dance featuring the music and lyrics of the legendary Irving Berlin that premiered last fall.
The cast includes: Jeremy Benton (42nd Street, Cagney at The York), Darien Crago (Holiday Inn, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas), Kaitlyn Davidson (Cinderella, Bright Star), Danny Gardner (Flying Over Sunset, The Decline and Fall of the Worldwide…at York), Darrell T. Joe (Jesus Christ Superstar) and Melinda Porto (Off Broadway debut). The stunt doubles are Corinne Munsch (A Chorus Line at Signature, Bullets Over Broadway on Tour) and Sean Quinn (Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, Cinderella).
Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin in Hollywood was conceived, directed and choreographed by four-time Tony Award nominee Randy Skinner (42nd Street, Dames at Sea, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, Ain’t Broadway Grand), which received a Lucille Lortel 2022 nominated for his choreography. Cheek to Cheek has a book by Barry Kleinbort (13 Things About Ed Carpolotti) and musical direction and additional orchestrations by David Hancock Turner (York’s Desperate Measures and Penelope, Irish Rep’s The Butcher Boy).
Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin in Hollywood is scheduled to begin showings Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. for a limited engagement through Sunday afternoon, October 16, at 2:30 p.m. at York’s magnificent temporary home, The Theater at St Jeans (150 East 76th Street, between Lexington and Third Avenues-elevator entrance on Lexington immediately south of St. Jeans). Opening night is Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin in Hollywood is a celebration of singing and dancing some of the most famous songs that the legendary Irving Berlin has composed for the big screen. Mr. Berlin understood the impact of dance on audiences and his melodies, rhythms and lyrics reflected his love for the art form. Six spectacular performers will present these beautiful songs and also tell the stories behind the man who made the music that made the movies dance. Four-time Tony Award nominee Randy Skinner directs and choreographs an evening featuring an array of classic Berlin melodies from classic films such as Top Hat, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, Holiday Inn, Easter Parade, White Christmas and many more. Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin in Hollywood is presented through a special arrangement with Concord Theatricals and Irving Berlin Estate and is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with support from Governor Kathy Hochul and the US Legislature. The creative team includes stage design by James Morgan, costume design by Nicole Wee, lighting design by Jason Kantrowitz and Ken Billington, sound design by Julian Evans, vocal arrangements and orchestrations by Fred Lassen and dance arrangements by Rob Berman. The production manager is Chris Steckel. The casting director is Michael Cassara, CSA.
Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin in Hollywood will play the following weekly performance schedule at the St. Jeans Theater: Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with performances at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Senior Rush tickets are available in person starting one hour before performances for $20. Student tickets can be purchased anytime in advance at the box office during normal box office opening hours. Limit of one ticket per valid student ID and tickets are subject to availability. Student Rush tickets are $20. The York Theater is also offering $30 tickets for guests ages 35 and under through the GenYork program.
