Get a First Listen to Netflix’s “Brand New You” 13: The Musical Soundtrack

The screen version of Jason Robert Brown Broadway Musical releases with its soundtrack on August 12.

Netflix will release its screen version of the 2008 Broadway musical 13 August 12, with the soundtrack released on digital and streaming platforms the same day from Ghostlight Records and Atlantic Records. Adapted from the musical with a score by Jason Robert Brown and a book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn, 13: The Musical is directed by Tamra Davis and includes three new songs, all written by Brown.

Eli Golden leads the cast as Evan Goldman, a 12-year-old boy who is forced to leave New York for Indiana as he prepares to throw the perfect bar mitzvah. The cast also includes Gabriella Uhl, JD McCrary, Frankie McNellis, Lindsey Blackwell, Jonathan Lengel, Broadway The Lion King former Ramon Reed, Nolen Dubuc, Luke Islam, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Kayleigh Cerezo, Willow Moss, Liam Wignall and Khiyla Aynne.

New in the mix for 13The on-screen version of features adult characters, played by Debra Messing, Rhea Perlman, Josh Peck and Peter Hermann.

The musical premiered in Los Angeles in 2007, then bowed to Broadway the following year. The production marked the first – and to date only – musical to feature an all-teenage cast and band. Among the company were a young Graham Phillips, Allie Trimm and Ariana Grande.

The outing is the latest in Netflix’s growing catalog of stage-to-screen projects, joining the screen adaptations of Prom and tick, tick… BOOM! and the next directed by Emma Thompson Matilda. The streamer is also currently developing a film version of the Off-Broadway musical. The Legend of Georgia McBride and a limited series based on the long-running Broadway musical A chorus line.
