TikTok has grown tremendously over the past few years, transforming the app from a humble YouTube and Instagram challenger into a go-to marketing hub for brands.
Once considered a niche dance and lip-syncing app for teens, a reputation born from its Musical.ly roots, TikTok said it now has more than a billion monthly active users.
With such a large audience, most consumer-facing brands have some type of TikTok strategy in place. Companies often hire influencers to promote products on the app or hire their own employees to create original content to tap into existing trends on the platform.
Some brands like Duolingo have garnered millions of followers by creating funny videos featuring their staff or company mascots in the case of Duolingo, a owl obsessed with music performer Dua Lipa. Other companies like fintech startup Running hire TikTok influencers to create original videos promoting their brands, generating tens of millions of views.

We’ll consider factors like the impact of marketers’ campaigns, the growth they’ve driven for a brand on TikTok, and the innovative ways they’ve used the short video format.
