Creatives and SMEs will take part in the AfCFTA’s product brands hackathon


The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat has invited small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups in the manufacturing sector, as well as creatives, to participate in a brand competition aimed at boosting small businesses.

The Brand Hackathon was launched on April 29 to mark the AfCFTA’s third anniversary.

AfCFTA Secretary General Wamkele Mene and AfCFTA Champion, former President of Niger Mahamadou Issoufou challenged African businesses to participate in the hackathon.

“The AfCFTA warmly invites SMEs/startups to the product manufacturing space, as well as brand artists and other brand builders who can help these SMEs refresh their product brand identity to drive sales. , to participate in the hackathon,” the statement read.

Three categories have been identified for participants wishing to participate in the competition: graphic and visual design for brands, visual and musical arts for brands and SMEs.


Successful artists will then be matched with selected SMEs by May 12, and the joint creative and entrepreneurial teams will be expected to deliver final designs by May 19.

Application is open until May 10.

“The best collaborative result, judged by the AfCFTA Hackathon Mall & Supermarket Partners, will be recognized with prizes and will highlight opportunities across Africa during the third anniversary celebrations,” the AfCFTA said.

Since the start of the trade agreement in January 2021, the AfCFTA has not been fully implemented across the continent.
