‘Bridgerton’ Producer Shonda Rhimes, Makeup Artist Pat McGrath Announced With Barbie Dolls

Rhimes, whose company Shondaland Media is behind the hit Netflix series ‘Bridgerton’ and ‘Inventing Anna’, took to Instagram to share a photo of her doll from the collection ahead of International Women’s Day.

“I have my own Barbie!” Proud to be among 12 incredible women, who are breaking all barriers in their respective careers,” Rhimes, also known for the medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” and the political series “Scandal,” wrote Thursday.

Other winners include McGrath, a fashion week runway staple and founder of Pat McGrath Labs, as well as Mahfouf, 24, an Algerian-born social media influencer.

“It’s a huge honor and it’s kind of amazing because when I was younger we only had…a few Barbie models and they all kinda looked alike – blond, tall with straight hair – and I didn’t feel represented by that,” Mahfouf said. “So now having my own Barbie with curly hair and a bit darker skin, I’m glad to see that.

Mattel said its Barbie Dream Gap global project is partnering with the charity Inspiring Girls International to work with local schools in various countries by offering workshops and guidance.

“Having role models is crucial for girls, because you can’t really dream of becoming something if you haven’t seen it,” said Inspiring Girls International founder Miriam Gonzalez Durantez. “So having that visibility is crucial for girls.”
