Centenary Stage Company’s production of Steve Martin’s Meteor Shower kicked off last weekend and audiences are thrilled. Performances will run through March 6 at the Lackland Performing Arts Center’s Sitnik Theater at 715 Grand Avenue, Hackettstown, NJ on the Centenary University campus. Tickets range from $25.00 to $29.50 for adults with discounts available for seniors, students, and children 12 and under. Meteor Shower by Steve Martin. Corky and Norm are thrilled to welcome Gerald and Laura to their home in the valley outside Los Angeles to watch a unique meteor shower. But as the stars roll out and the conversation picks up speed, it becomes clear that Gerald and Laura might not be all they seem. During a crazy, star-studded dinner, the unexpected happens.
A well-known comedian, actor and producer, Steve Martin is no stranger to the world of writing. Martin wrote and starred in his first film, The Absent-Minded Waiter, which was nominated for an Oscar. Martin’s other works include the Picasso piece at Lapin Agile, as well as collaborative work with Carl Reiner on The Jerk, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid, The Man with Two Brains, and All of Me. Currently, Martin has co-created a new Hulu Original comedy series Only Murders in the Building with comedian Martin Short and Selena Gomez.
This production is directed by the artistic director of Centenary Stage Company, Carl Wallnau. Among many credits on and off stage, Wallnau most recently directed and starred as Scrooge in the 2020 CSC World Premiere as well as the 2021 production of Stephen Temperley’s A Christmas Carol. Wallnau has worked extensively at many regional theaters including Paper Mill Playhouse, Second Stage New York, People’s Light, The Lark Theatre, The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Hartford Stage, Bristol Riverside, Forum Theatre, Premiere Stages, Orlando Shakespeare Company, Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, Foothills Playhouse and 14 months on the road with the Titanic’s first national tour.
Steve Martin’s Meteor Shower cast will include Centenary Stage Company favorites Emaline Williams as Laura, Scott McGowan as Gerald and Suzy Kimball as Corky, plus Centenary Stage’s Christopher John Young Company as Norm. Previously, Emaline Williams was seen on the Centennial Stage, the world premiere production of Darrah Cloud’s Turning. Christopher John Young is the Managing Director of Centenary Stage Company and was last seen on the Centenary Stage in Dracula Written and Directed by Charles Morey. Scott McGowan was seen on Centenary’s Stage in At the Small Empire Music Hall and is also a member of Vivid Stage (formerly Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre) and will appear in their upcoming original play Life’s Work in April. Suzy Kimball has been seen on the Centennial Stage at Becky Shaw and other credits include A Street Car Named Desire (Majestic Theatre), Act of God (Depot Theatre) and Angel Street (Cider Mill Playhouse).
Performances of Steve Martin’s Meteor Shower will continue until March 6. Dates and times are Thursday, February 24 and March 3 at 7:30 p.m.; Fridays February 25 and March 4 at 8 p.m.; Saturdays February 26 and March 5 at 8 p.m.; and Sundays February 26 and March 6 at 2:00 p.m. Centenary Stage Company will also present a special performance of Meteor Shower on March 2 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets range from $25.00 to $29.50 for adults with discounts available for seniors, students and children 12 and under, and Thursday night performances. Tickets to the dubbing show are $10.00 each. This show is recommended for mature audiences and features adult language, themes and humor.
