A brand new old-school rom-com and 6 more movies and shows to watch this weekend

George Clooney, Julia Roberts, David Bowie, Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Watts and plenty more in this week’s new additions on the big screen and at home.

As always, your good friends here at JOE have rounded up all the great new releases for you to enjoy in theaters or on your couch this Friday, Saturday and Sunday for your weekend viewing pleasure.

To start, here are the films which will all be available on big screens in Ireland from Friday 16th September.


An old-school rom-com, with Julia Roberts and George Clooney playing divorced exes who put their troubles aside to work together and travel to Bali to try to save their daughter (Kaitlyn Dever) from getting married too young.


The director of Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck turns his attention to another musical icon, using never-before-seen footage from David Bowie’s personal archive. It is the first film to be officially licensed by Bowie’s estate.


An Irish comedy-drama, the film introduces us to Róise (Bríd Ní Neachtain), who has struggled since the death of her husband. When a stray dog ​​suddenly arrives and starts following her, she begins to suspect that it might be the reincarnated spirit of her late husband.

i was famous

After a chance encounter, a former boy band member (Ed Skrein) and an autistic drummer (Leo Long) with an incredible gift for rhythm strike up an unexpected friendship, forming a unique bond through their music.

The film is available on Netflix from Friday, September 16.


When a world famous singer (played by Jennifer Lopez) finds out that her equally famous boyfriend is cheating on her, she chooses a man (Owen Wilson) from the crowd at one of her concerts and decides to marry him. And in the grand cinematic romantic story shared by Notting Hill and The Bodyguard, this rom-com shows what happens when the worlds of a celebrity and a regular guy collide!

The film can be viewed with a NOW Cinema subscription starting Friday, September 16.


This remake of the Austrian horror film sees two young boys convinced that the woman (Naomi Watts) recovering from facial reconstruction surgery isn’t really their mother.

The film is available on Amazon Prime Video from Friday, September 16.
